  1. Going Places says:

I've lived on the BI for 2 years, and visited all sights mentioned. In addition, the Parker Ranch, the various waterfalls (Rainbow and Akaka), Waiokoloa and Hapuna Beach are also worth mentioning, not to mention Hawaii Volcanoes NP (with the ever active Kilauea Volcano). A drive to saddle road is awe inspiring (you are saddled between Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa) but at the same time scary if you had a car breakdown or run out of gas, so plan accordingly. The observatory on top of Mauna Kea is also worth the visit. For the adventurous, head the Ka Lae, the REAL southernmost point of the USA, where I did the 50 ft cliff jump into the ocean.

But alluring as the island is, to me two years is enough. The place is great for vacation no doubt about that. But if you are used to hustle and bustle and dynamic lifestyle, the island (and the entire state) maybe too laid back for you.
